The library of the Columbus Centre just acquired a new section. The INCA patronage donated 150 books of a collection devoted to the history of trade unions and labour issues. Last Thursday, the donation ceremony was attended by Centro Scuola director Alberto Di Giovanni and several members of the patronage, which is linked to CGIL, Italy's largest union. The audience included Union Secretary Nicoletta Ronchi.
"This is a good initiative," remarked Ronchi to Corriere Canadese/Tandem. "When we were offered this opportunity to co-operate we took it enthusiastically. We are very glad that a section of this library was born thanks to our contribution."
The patronage works for all Italian immigrants, stated Ronchi. "Our history is intertwined with theirs," she explained. "We provide services and assistance to Italian communities abroad. Many people, throughout the world, feel strongly their Italian origins."
The publications presented to the Columbus Centre library date back to the last five years. Another hundred books should be delivered over the coming weeks, according to INCA Canada President Franco Gaspari.
