Vaughan's City Playhouse Theatre hosted the sixth annual Festival of the Arts last weekend, where hundreds of visitors attended this free community art show that celebrated and showcased Vaughan's artistic community. The event featured a Family Day on Saturday and Community Artist Day on Sunday.
"The Festival of the Arts is a wonderful opportunity for our local artistic community to showcase its talents and works," said Mayor Michael Di Biase. "The City of Vaughan is a strong supporter of cultural activities that help to promote our local artisans."
On Family Day, children participated in hands-on art demonstrations. Lynrich Arts, Max Grunin Art School and Mirella Tersigni showed visitors the techniques of creating a work of art. Artwork from local youth was also on display. The theatre stage featured sample performances from Marquee Productions and the City Youth Players highlighting the City Playhouse's upcoming 2005-2006 season, with youth performers also entertaining visitors throughout the day.
On Community Artist Day, the lobby of the City Playhouse was transformed into a unique art gallery where artists ranging from painters and sculptors, to one-of-a-kind decorative artists displayed their exclusive creations. Over 40 local visual artists participated including Giuseppe Lazzaro and Miguel Tomazo.
