He is not just a techno DJ, he also plays electronic music from chilled-out downbeat to funky harder industrial techno, he says. Confused? You needn't be if you are going to Ibiza this year because you can check out his genre-busting sets for yourself.
Alongside Chris Liebing, the techno sensation from Frankfurt, Mauro hopes to educate the Ibiza crowd to his sound for the first time by bringing his Meganite event to Ibiza at Privilege, officially the world's biggest club. He expects it to be a highly successful season for them.
Liebing said: "It is something new and different for the island. Most of our guest DJs have never played in Ibiza before. We have spent huge amounts on production and have totally transformed the club. We have 35-foot squared projection walls with some of Europe's best VJs, our own stage, and a brand new sound system. We have also reduced the capacity to around 3,000".
The weekly night launched on Wednesday July 7 and first reports back have been positive says Chris Liebing. "There is definitely enough room for our music on the island," he comments. "I believe techno music has the most energy and creates the best party vibe of all dance music. Every time I play in Ibiza techno goes down really well. People will soon prefer our tunes to the cheesy crappy progressive money-making music that the island is consumed with. I hope they will be open-minded! We will do our best to not disappoint them!"
Chris was voted Best National DJ at the German Dance Awards in 2003. He has always had a forward-thinking musical taste, and he said Ibiza needed to have the same: "Ibiza needs to widen its musical spectrum. It has of course still got sun, sea, beaches, and the best clubs, but its music is not advanced enough".
What are Chris's long-term goals as a DJ? He said: "I want to use newer technology which will give me more time entertain the crowd - instead of turning round to search for the next record I will have all my records on my laptop which will make DJing more spontaneous and my sets more enjoyable."
