Theme parties aren't just for kids anymore. In fact, in the past decade theme dinner parties for adults have become more popular than ever before. They're a fun excuse to get away from the hustle and bustle of a typical weekday and get together with friends for good fun and drinks.
Fans of Sex and the City will no doubt have a hard time now that the show about four fabulous single women in New York is coming to an end, but the show's swansong is just the opportunity to give a bash for ladies only. For place cards, use a piece of red or pink ribbon to attach the card to the stem of each wine or champagne glass. Guests can dress up as their favourite character on the show. Décor can include books on the show and entertainment could include, of course, some taped episodes.
A spicy Cheddar Spread ala Samantha Jones will delight everyone. Dishes created from edible flowers are also a wonderful addition. To make Dandelion Fritters, simply mix baking powder, cinnamon powder, salt, whole wheat flower and chopped dandelion flowers. Beat egg and milk and olive oil and stir into the dry mix. Add the dandelion flowers and fry until golden. For drinks, Manhattans and Cosmopolitans are a must.
Make your party a swank affair by commemorating the lounge era. Chocolate place cards will look great for this event. Buy chocolate rectangle bars. Join pieces together by melting sides in a hot frying pan. Join together on waxed paper. Cut another piece of chocolate into a triangle and use it to prop up the bar. Place on a cooling rack for two hours. Using icing, decorate with the names of your guests. Let cool for an hour in the refrigerator before setting out on the table. Truffles are just the thing for this party. Mix white truffles with nutmeg and salt and pepper for an incredible side dish. For a fancy thank-you gift, bake miniature chocolate cakes. Decorate with icing sugar and Vodka.
Dinner parties commemorating a decade are always lots of fun. You can even base a party around a particular popular show of an era, I Love Lucy, for example, would be a great basis for your 50s party. A perfect 50s dinner menu might include a pot roast, peas, rolls, mashed potatoes and gravy. Apple pie with ice cream will cap off the night. Develop pictures of each of your guests in their costumes and send out as thank-you gifts.
