As the largest-ever English-language Canadian release in history, there's plenty of hope and expectations for Foolproof. But despite a feelgood ending, some solid performances and a commercial plot, this decent Canadiana is not particularly original nor suspenseful.
Kevin (Ryan Reynolds), Samantha (Kristin Booth) and Rob (Joris Jarsky) plot "foolproof" robberies just for fun. But after one of their plans is hijacked by British gangster Leo (David Suchet) the trio finds itself in a bind. Unless the three pull off the ultimate heist, Leo will turn in evidence that will incriminate the friends in a diamonds theft. Now the trio must find a way to test its theories, and survive.
Reynolds (Van Wilder) is obviously the hunk of the picture, and his demeanor is charismatic enough if not for the cakey make-up that made this viewer want to dip her finger into his cheek. And while the dialogue isn't particularly clever, and the situations obviously implausible, Foolproof is certainly entertaining and worthwhile.
