Aspects of Italian origin for the 5th and final edition of the WriteNOW! Festival of New Works, which will be held in Toronto from March 21 to 26. Also returning to the festival along with Jennifer De Lucia and Deanna Palazzo who will appear in Jon Nelson's play entitled Art vs. Love vs. Life, will be Daniel Stolfi.
Twenty-eight-year-old actor, comic, and author Stolfi describes his roots as being a “‘mix’ between a father from Basilicata and an Abruzzese mother.”
After a difficult period that began in 2008 when he was diagnosed with lymphoma and was forced to undergo aggressive treatment, Stolfi is now ready to return to the scene.
“I completed treatment in March of 2010, so about a year ago. I’ve very well and there are now many things I really want to do.”
Stolfi is making an appearance at the 2011 edition of WriteNOW! Festival of New Works as writer of A Really Bad Play:
“It’s a comedy that brings together many errors that are often made on stage during plays,” he tells Tandem/Corriere Canadese. “It’s a sort of ‘disaster show’ – all actors’ and directors’ worst nightmare.” The most entertaining part, the writer says, is the fact that “these errors and small incidents have actually occurring during my acting experience. I’ve been part of the world of theatre for about 10 years, and in 10 years a lot can happen. I really enjoyed writing this play, and I had a lot of material to work with.”
The message, Stolfi says, is that of not taking theatre too seriously so that it can always be a positive and entertaining experience.
March 21 will not be the first time that Stolfi will find himself under the spotlights of WriteNOW! Festival of New Works – he had already taken part in 2007.
“Since my first participation at the festival, I’ve been on a very significant journey from the artistic point of view. I feel very much more mature, even if I have to admit that this last work isn’t exactly a ‘mature play’. A bit of a contradiction. But I really think I’ve grown significantly in very many aspects.”
