QuickTax Personal Deluxe (Intuit)
by Alessandro Cancian

Granted, talking about taxes is not your favourite pastime, and be assured it isnt mine either, considering the sum I had to fork out this year. In order to avoid unpleasant complications, my advice is to complete your T1 form as soon as possible. Rest assured, itll take no degree in Economics, although Ill admit to receiving a little help from QuickTax.
Intuit Canada, developer of QuickTax as well as other software products, is the undisputed leader on the Canadian market for tax return preparation software. A deserved leadership, thanks to products such as QuickTax Personal Deluxe. Preparing your tax return is really easy with QuickTax Personal Deluxe; short video and electronic references will assist all along the process giving you an incredibly helpful hand. As if that wasnt enough, this year Intuit decided to make things even easier by integrating a series of Q&A tax interviews.
Add to the mix a very intuitive graphical interface and voila! QuickTax Personal Deluxe will be your new accountant, as patient as any, always available and much less expensive. Available both for Macs and PCs, QuickTax Personal Deluxe comes for $34.95 (after mail-in rebate), surely much less than your CA.
For that sum, QuickTax allows you to prepare a maximum of 18 tax returns, and this is quite unusual. I believe, in fact, that the average Canadian fills out less tax returns than that, so that restriction seems rather bizarre to me. This year, QuickTax also offers the possibility to import files from two other tax software packages: HomeTax (bought by Intuit) and CanTax T1 (no more available on the market), thus offering old users a painless transition to the new software.
Once you have filled out your tax return, youll be able to print your forms and send them by mail to Revenue Canada, or, if you have access to the Internet, you can send everything in by e-mail (you have to be eligible). Using QuickTax, youll notice that it is not simply a tax return software, but rather more, thanks to tools such as the Analyzers that can give you many useful pieces of advice. For those who own a corporation, the suitable version is QuickTax Incorporated Business, only available for PCs ($79.95), which can also prepare T2 forms.
If you dont want your tax season to turn into a nightmare, try QuickTax. Find out the version best suited to your needs and youll only have to worry about signing your cheque to Revenue Canada.
